Studio Guidelines

What to Wear

Pottery can be messy business and somewhat physical so we recommend you wear comfortable clothes that you won’t mind getting muddy. We have aprons available for everyone’s use but we recommend you bring a personal tea towel or a rag to wipe your hands on during your wheel session. Also, shoes - sounds weird but they must be worn at all times.

What to Bring

We carry a variety of tools for everyone’s use, we however recommend more experienced potters to bring their own set of tools.

Studio Etiquette

Be friendly and respectful of others.
Please be mindful of your fellow potters’ work around the studio.
Only wet sanding is allowed in the studio area, dry sanding should be done outside.
Help us keep the place clean and safe by cleaning up all your tools and stations when you are done.
No wet clay in the front of house area.
If you’re not sure, ask!

Clean up Rule

We abide by the “leave a place cleaner than you found it” rule. This is a community studio so everyone should ensure that the tools and station they use are properly cleaned up after each use, and that tools returned to their place.

Clay Used

We cary 4 types of mid-range (cone 6) clay for purchase; Cinco Blanco, Cinco Rojo, Buffalo Wallow, and Porcelain.
Any other clay body will need authorization by an instructor or a member of our staff.

Glazes

All our glazes have been formulated for the clay bodies that we carry and our firing range. No other glaze may be used without proper testing and approval. Please ask our staff for any other glaze approval and testing procedure.

Any piece improperly glazed or wiped will be placed on the “try again” shelf.

Firing

We fire bisque ware at cone 06 and glazes at cone 6 on electric kilns. Only our staff is allowed to operate the kilns.

Oversized Work

We want to give everyone a fair share of our kilns space. Our staff will accommodate oversized work (larger than 10” in any direction) as best they can we but cannot promise a timely turn-around. Larger pieces and repetitive items may be deprioritized by our staff.

Open Studio

We offer regular Open Studio hours throughout the week for our multi-week students and anyone with an intermediate-level experience. To ensure availability, please use our reservation platform ahead of your visit. You may also drop-in at any time during these hours and check in/checkout with our front desk.

Visitors can store their work in progress on the designated shelves and must log a firing ticket with our staff. A firing fee will apply to pieces larger than 10” in any direction or large quantities. For such pieces, refer to our “Oversized Work” guideline above.

Make-up Classes

Life happens to all of us. If you need to miss a class during your multi-week session, we will offer you some extra open studio hours to make up for it while your session lasts. Only one make up class per session can be requested.

Refunds & Cancellations

Multi-week classes: Full refund available if cancelled 2 weeks before the start class.

One time classes: Full refund available if cancelled 1 week before the class.

We reserve the right to cancel a class or workshop up to 3 days in advance of the first class due to insufficient enrollment. If a class is canceled, you will be offered the option of another class or a full refund.

Membership Freezes & Cancellations

All members may request a month-long freeze of their membership twice a year so they keep their place.
